Therapy for Children and Teens with Play Therapy
If you have children then you have noticed that they are not developmentally able to have conversations like adults (duh…I know.) And at the same time, some therapists still try to talk to your kiddo. But not at JS Therapy Group.
We know that play is a child’s language and toys are their words. Even for a teenager. Teens appreciate using more creative ways to communicate about their thoughts and feelings. We use a variety of play therapy methods to help your child and teen process the things that are bothering them.

Counseling for Children and Teens Can Help with Anxiety
Many children and teens struggle with anxiety. Really, no one is immune to the grips of anxiety. But how do you know if your child or teen is experiencing anxiety? These disorders can look different in children and teens than in adults. Here are some signs that could help you know if your child is struggling with anxiety:
Anger outbursts
Sometimes children who struggle with anxiety have more anger than usual. Even small things, that make no sense to you, can make a child angry.
Frequent crying over small things
Does you child cry more often than he used to? Again, even small things that you feel like shouldn’t make him cry? This could be a sign of anxiety.
Frequent Worry
Children who are struggling with anxiety many times have worry. They worry about a lot of things that in your mind, they shouldn’t be worried about.
Free Counseling for Families in Leavenworth County, Kansas
We love working with families! Actually, a rule of thumb is the younger the child, the more we work with the parents. Parents are an important part of a child’s treatment process. Children are still learning about their bodies and their environment. We need parents and other caregivers to be available to help children with the skills we are working on in therapy.

Counseling for Children and Teens for PTSD
It can be hard to know if an event will leave a child or teen feeling traumatized. Sometimes children and teens go though a hard event and they seem fine. Other times, children go through a hard event and they are not okay. They start to get fidgety, have problems sleeping and start having angry outbursts.
Sometimes these symptoms can look like other disorders. Post-traumatic stress disorder can sometimes look like ADHD. It is important to have the correct diagnosis in order to treat the correct issue.
Our Summer Counseling Program can help you and your child or teen work though these symptoms. Whether it be with play therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or another approach, we can help.
Free Online Therapy in Leavenworth, Kansas
Are you still watching who are interact with due to COVID-19? Or maybe you have other children who you need to care for while your child is being treated. Whatever the reason, online therapy could be the solution for you.
We use telehealth platforms that are HIPAA compliant to keep your session private. The great thing about telehealth is that you can use pretty much any device that has a screen and a camera: your phone, your tablet or your computer. When we work with children through online therapy, we prefer the parent is part of the sessions in order to assist the child with the technology.

Do We Get to See A Real Therapist with the Free Summer Counseling Program?
JS Therapy Group has partnered with local universities for years to be able to offer affordable and low-cost counseling services to the community. Counseling services in our FREE Summer Counseling Program are provided by Masters Level Student Therapists from local universities.
There are several benefits to seeing a student therapist:
Up-to-date on the Latest Research
Student therapists are currently being instructed by PhD level instructors at their universities who are up to date on the latest research regarding all things counseling. Student therapists are able to learn this research which can have a positive impact on your treatment outcomes!
A team of therapists on your case
Student therapists received up to 4 hours of supervision a week with a more experienced therapist! When student therapists meet with their supervisor, they talk about your case and get direction as to how to best help you. Sometimes there are several supervisors for each student therapist. This means you get so many more eyes on your case to help you achieve your treatment goals! In addition, research has shown that student therapists who receive frequent supervision may be just as effective as licensed therapists (APA, 2013).
Low Cost Option for You
Let’s face it. A huge benefit of seeing a student therapist is the low cost associated. Often times, student therapists are working for free in order to log a certain number of hours toward graduation. Seeing a student therapist helps you to save money. We don’t need to worry about insurance either. Student therapists cannot bill insurance. So we are bound by the restrictions that sometimes come with using insurance to pay for services.
Is the Summer Counseling Program in Leavenworth, KS Confidential?
Absolutely! The counseling that is provided through our Summer Counseling Program is no different than therapy provided outside of the Summer Counseling Program EXCEPT it is FREE!
Student therapists are still bound by both confidentiality and HIPAA. In addition, the student therapists have extensive training on how to keep your information confidential and private. Even when your student therapists coordinate with their supervisors, the supervisors are bound by confidentiality and HIPAA as well.
Student therapists are required to record themselves for the purpose of instruction and training. All student therapists are training on how to keep the recordings secure though a system called the double lock rule. This means someone must get through two locks before being able to access you personal information.

Can We Continue Therapy After the Summer Counseling Program Has Ended?
Most definitely! If you feel like you, your child and your family could benefit from continued therapy services after the Summer Counseling Program has ended, we can make arrangements for you to continue with the same student therapist or a licensed therapist.
If you choose to see a student therapist, your financial agreement will transition to a fee based upon our Ability-to-Pay Scale. Our Ability-to-Pay Scale is based on your household size and gross annual household income. The absolute most you would pay for each therapy session is $30.
If you choose to see a licensed therapist, you financial agreement will transition to insurance or self-pay at the therapist’s regular rate. If you choose to use insurance, we can provide information regarding your estimated copay, deductible and/or coinsurance.
